NORTHERN LEAGUE DIV TWO

- MARK CARRUTHERS

BILLINGHAM Town moved eight points clear at the top of the table with a 5-3 home win against Washington.

Ash Lavan gave the league leaders a narrow lead at half-time with his 10th-minute goal and their advantage was doubled four minutes after the interval as Craig Hutchinson got himself on the scoresheet.

Chris Pattinson halved the deficit for Washington on 56 minutes but two goals in as many minutes helped Lavan complete his hat-trick and give his side a 4-1 lead 20 minutes into the second half gone.

Alex Ramshaw pulled one back for Washington, only to see Lavan’s fourth restore his side’s three-goal advantage.

Ramshaw got Washington’s third on 82 minutes, but their hosts had already done more than enough to secure another win and extend their unbeaten run to 20 games.

Aaron Ramsbottom hit a hat-trick as Northallerton Town won by the odd goal in five against Bedlington Terriers.

The striker’s first goal came just before the hour-mark and he got his side back level after Brad Higgins put the Terriers into the lead after the break.

Adam Harvey restored the visitors’ lead, but the Northallerton front-man scored twice in three minutes to claim the win that moves his side up to third.

Glen Hargrave scored a brace to help Jarrow FC to a notable win at promotion-chasing Thornaby. The former Hebburn Town man put his side into a two-goal lead at half-time and they held on to claim the points, despite Kurtis Howes halving the deficit on the hour-mark.

West Allotment Celtic and Ryton & Crawcrook failed to find the net at Druid Park.
