Luton make it six wins in a row to close gap

-

LUTON closed the gap on Portsmouth at the top of the Sky Bet League table to four points after a 2-1 win at Coventry.

Goals from Matthew Pearson and James Collins earned the Hatters a sixth successive victory as they continue to take League One by storm after promotion last season.

They also took advantage of Pompey dropping points in a 1-1 draw at Barnsley.

Jonson Clarke-harris netted a consolation from the penalty spot in stoppage-time for Coventry but Luton remain second in the table.

Portsmouth went ahead at Oakwell through Gareth Evans two minutes before the interval but Cauley Woodrow ensured the points were shared.

Pompey and Luton are above Sunderland, who are third, but Jack Ross’ side have two games in hand.

At the other end of the table, an 80th-minute error by Rochdale goalkeeper Josh Lillis handed Plymouth all three points in a 2-1 win.

Visitors Plymouth took the lead through Joel Grant but the lead lasted just three minutes before Brad Inman levelled.

Lillis then attempted to kick the ball upfield from a back pass and the ball trickled under his boot and into the goal.

Bradford moved off the bottom of the table with an emphatic 4-0 victory over Walsall with two goals from David Ball.

Right-back Paul Caddis opened the scoring for Bradford before Ball’s brace and Eoin Doyle completed the scoring in the 83rd minute.

A fourth John Marquis goal in as many games wrapped up a 3-0 victory for Doncaster against struggling Scunthorpe.

Gillingham came from behind to draw 2-2 against Wycombe, while Oxford beat Blackpool 2-0 through an Ollie Turton own goal and a James Henry strike.

Southend ended their poor run of form with a 3-0 victory over Accrington with goals from Sam Mantom, Simon Cox and Theo Robinson.

Rhys Bennett’s injury time equaliser secured a 2-2 draw for Peterborough against Shrewsbury.

Goals from Lyle Taylor and Mark Marshall gave Charlton a 2-0 south London derby victory over AFC Wimbledon as both sides finished with 10 men.

Ched Evans gave Fleetwood a 1-0 victory against Burton to make it six games without defeat at Highbury.
