Braithwaite’s Boro stay coming to
MARTIN Braithwaite’s Boro career could finally come to an end if Boro receive interest from foreign clubs next month. The Dane has disappointed for much of this season, after starting the campaign like a house on fire. Despite Tony Pulis’s comments that Braithwaite would stay fully committed to the cause, the Dane’s overall form has not come up to scratch.
No doubt Braithwaite will be aware of any interest from abroad, just as he was in August when Spanish and Italian clubs were said to be on his trail.
Most Boro fans expected Braithwaite to be on his way at that stage, but it came to nothing – possibly as a result of Boro’s asking price.
Boro paid Toulouse £9m for Braithwaite in the summer of 2017 and there’s no doubt that he is a quality player when he is at the top of his form.
The fact that he was allegedly unsettled on Teesside led to Boro allowing him on join Bordeaux on loan for the second half of last season.
Braithwaite still offers a useful contribution to the team because he is the only player who looks comfortable in the No.10 role.
However, as Pulis is looking to bring in two or three new attacking players next month, a loophole will be created for Braithwaite to move out.
There was a feeling that Boro might look to find a loan club for fellow forward Ashley Fletcher, but maybe the £6m misfit will be given another chance.
Fletcher was a surprise inclusion against Blackburn last weekend and was taken off only because Mo Besic’s dismissal prompted a reshuffle.
