Sunday Sun - - News -

THREE people were taken to hospital after a three-vehicle crash, which caused rush-hour chaos in Newcastle.

At 5pm on Friday, the vehicle collided on the northbound carriageway of the Central Motorway.

Police were called at 5.06pm and remained on the scene for just over an hour, while the cars were recovered.

The collision took place just past the New Bridge Street (A193) roundabout, by the junction with Camden Street.

A spokeswoman for the North East Ambulance Service said: “A crew came across an RTC at the junction of the A167 and Camden Street at 5pm.

“Three patients were involved, and we sent a second crew.

“All three patients have been transported to the RVI, in two ambulances.”

As commuters made their way home, the crash caused tailbacks as far back as to the junction of the A184 Park Lane, in Gateshead, with traffic remaining slow up to the A1058 Jesmond Road junction.

Traffic entering the motorway from conjoining roads continued to be affected until after 6pm.

The cars were removed at around 6.20pm and all lanes on the Central Motorway reopened.
