HAPPY couples celebrating their diamond wedding this year are wanted for a special exhibition.

Sunderland’s Diamond Jubilee Celebration aims to mark 60 years of the Queen’s reign and the impact it has had on Sunderland.

Now, couples marking their 60th anniversary are needed for a preview event to the exhibition.

Councillor Paul Watson, leader of Sunderland City Council, said today: “Sixty years after her accession, the Jubilee celebrations earlier this month really did remind the whole world how closely this nation holds the Queen to its heart.

“We expect this exhibition will be really popular with both the young and the old, giving people the chance to look back on how the world has changed since the Queen began her reign.

“Sunderland couples who have been married for 60 years will, of course, remember 1952 fondly, and we’d really love them to play a special part in this exhibition, and be among the first to get a glimpse of it, which really will be a walk down memory lane for people who have lived through the six very different decades.”

Organisers ask those who want to be involved to contact them as soon as possible.

The four- day exhibition, which takes place from July 19 to July 22, is being held at the Port of Sunderland.

Only 6,500 tickets will be available for the extravaganza, which begins with a special preview on July 18, which will be followed by a public exhibition, for which tickets will need to be booked.

Couples marking their diamond anniversary year should contact Nicola Vincent on 561 8438 or email nicola. vincent@ sunderland. gov. uk by no later than Monday, July 2.

More information about the event and details of how to apply for tickets will be released later this week.
