Fund- raising’s a walk in the park
Mum organises event to thank autistic charity for help
A DEVOTED mum has said a special “thankyou” to the autism charity that supported her family.
Donna Warwick, 30, from Fulwell, has raised hundreds of pounds for the National Autistic Society, which provided the help she needed when son Brandon, three, was diagnosed with the condition.
The mum, who also has a daughter, Sophie, five, held a walk from Roker Park to Whitburn Park with a group of supporters, drumming up plenty of cash with sponsorship and donation buckets on the day.
Donna said: “I just wanted to give something back. I was a bit lost when Brandon was first was diagnosed two years ago.
“I didn’t really know anything about the condition before he was diagnosed.
“I’ve relied on National Autistic Society. They have helped me a lot. They have taught me how to cope and I just wanted to give something back to show my thanks.”
She added: “We’ve
got more than £ 500 so far, but there are still more to come in. We’re hoping the total will be about £ 1,000.”
Donna said that the fundraising walk was a great success.
“It was good, despite the weather. It stayed dry at least.
“We had a picnic at the park and then we even walked back which we hadn’t planned to do. It was a great day.”
Brandon attends Columbia Grange School, in Washington, and Donna said that the school has been instrumental in his development and has helped produce some great new results.
Donna now plans to do more fund- raising for the charity that is so close to her heart.
She added: “I don’t know what they next thing will be, but I would definitely want to do more for them. They have helped me so much, it’s the least I can do really.”
