Big changes on way for local players

-

THE long- running issues facing league cricket in the region moved closer to resolution this week when it was confirmed DSL executives are to discuss a new league structure in 2013.

Following the recent formation of a new NEPL second division, which will see the Senior, County and Coast leagues lose a number of clubs at the end of this season, the Durham and Northumberland Cricket Boards agreed to talks between key officials.

On Monday, the seven clubs left in the DSL said they wanted to be included in the plans for a new league structure.

That new structure would possibly involve 26 clubs in total, with the likelihood they would play in one league next season, then split into two divisions the following year based on finishing positions in 2013.

The executive of the three leagues affected, along with the DCB, are now scheduled to meet tomorrow, when it is hoped to thrash out the main details, such as the management of the new league and the type of cricket to be played.
