COUPLE HELD UP IN HOME
Knife- wielding raiders storm house in shocking raid
A COUPLE have been left terrified after knifewielding thugs raided their home.
Three men smashed their way into the house at 7pm yesterday before demanding cash from the shocked householders.
As the man and woman were held up at knifepoint, the raiders rum- maged through their home before making off with a number of undisclosed items.
Although the couple escaped unharmed, they have been left severely shaken from the ordeal.
Police were called to the house at Moorside, Albany, in Washington, following the incident. Today, detectives leading the inquiry confirmed they had arrested two men, aged in their 20s.
They are currently being quizzed in police custody.
Officers are expected to carry out door- to- door inquiries later today as their investigation continues and patrols will be stepped up in the area.
The raid has left residents in the street shocked.
One man, who did not want to be named, said: “That’s absolutely awful. I was out and when I came back I saw the police there, but didn’t really think anything of it.
“I can’t imagine what they must have been through, it sounds really nasty. I just hope they are all okay.”
A woman added: “It’s terrible, and at that time of day too. It was broad daylight. You would never in a million years expect something like that to happen.
“The main thing is that no- one was hurt.”
Detectives today said they were not linking the incident to a similar burglary in that took place in Capheaton, Northumberland, on Tuesday.
