May 1990: The body of 14- yearold Simon Martin is discovered in a derelict house on Roker seafront.

Friday, November, 26, 1993: Thomas Kelly’s body is found in a burning allotment shed behind Monkwearmo­uth Hospital. Police could not determine the cause of the 18- year- old’s death.

Tuesday, February 8, 1994: David Hanson’s body is found in a derelict house in Roker. He was 15.

Friday, February 25, 1994: David Grieff’s body is found in an allotment shed at the rear of Monkwearmo­uth Hospital. He was 15.

August 1994: Pathologis­ts called in to review findings, and they alert detectives that a serial killer is at large in Sunderland.

September 1994: Police suspect a sexual element to the case, and DNA testing is carried out on semen retrieved from David Grieff.

November 1994: Grieveson is charged with three murders.

November 1994: Grieveson makes first appearance at Sunderland Magistrate­s’ Court.
