New jobs as auto boom continues

WEARSIDE’S runaway car industry is creating another 60 jobs.

Faurecia is expanding its operation on Washington’s Pattinson South Industrial Estate.

News comes as it was announced UK car production this year has topped the one million mark.

Recruitmen­t firm Zenith People is handling the jobs drive for Faurecia. It makes seats, cockpits, door panels, acoustics and soft trims for Nissan, Renualt, Cadillac, BMW and Ford.

Training operations manager Lisa Waller said: “It is fantastic to be involved in preparing so many people for employment.

“We are thrilled with how successful the programme has been and it is great these jobs have been created. It is a big bonus for Washington.”

Figures from the Society of Motor Manufactur­ers and Traders show there were 140,888 cars built in the UK in September, 9.9 per cent more than last year, taking the total so far to 1,125,433, up 3.9 per cent.

Chief executive Mike Hawes said: “September’s rise reinforces how the sector is one of the UK’s biggest success stories of recent years.”
