Honouring Wearside’s finest

-

KIAN’S battle with cancer has touched the hearts of Wearside.

So much so that he has been nominated for a Pride of Wearside award – for the second year running.

Donna Prudhoe, from Hylton Castle, has put forward the youngster for an award in the Child of Courage category.

Donna helps to sell Kian’s Gift wristbands from her workplace, the Premier store in Castletown.

She said: “Kian is the bravest little boy I have even met. Even though he’s having treatment, he’s still smiling. He has his treatment early every morning, then comes home and goes to school.

“Also, raising money for other poorly children like him shows he has a heart of gold.”

Now in their eighth year, the Pride of Wearside Awards recognise the kind- hearted, brave and determined.

There are 10 categories in total: Child of Achievement, Community Champion, Child of Courage, Safer Community, Sporting Achievement, Community Group, Fund- raiser of the Year, Local Hero/ Role Model, Green Champion and Student of the Year.

The winners will be awarded at a ceremony at the Stadium of Light on Wednesday, November 20.

You can make your nominations at www. sunderlandecho. com or look out for nomination forms in the paper.

The deadline for entries is Tuesday, November 5.
