Craig successfully defends WUMA title against Reid

-

CRAIG Carter made a successful second defence of his WUMA Pro- 69kg British title at the Extreme Full Contact 8 show at the CitySpace Arena.

The fight against Pershore Kickboxing’s Alex Reid went the distance of seven rounds with Carter taking six of them to emerge as points winner.

The Spartan Gym 23- year- old had only 25 contests under his belt compared to Reid’s 50, but the experience gap didn’t show.

Carter showcased his evasive ring craft and powerful combination punching to claim a good win.

The performance suggests he is now ready to step up to European level.

Kuei Ling’s Jamie Moore from South Shields, meanwhile, reaped the rewards of over 15 years of kickboxing perseverance.

Moore held the WUMA Pro European super heavyweight title for three years, defending it three times, but then sus- tained a torn ACL which meant a year out of training.

He has been battling his way back into contention ever since and had a shot at the WKA world title against Italian Giacomo Paterni.

At 6’ 2” Moore struggled at first with the 6’ 5” Paterni’s range advantage and there were dangerous times for him in the early rounds.

But by round 5, Moore was well and truly in charge and gave his man a standing count in the sixth round.

Moore had his man down again in the seventh. Paterni beat the count but Moore was back on him with a barrage of shots, sending the Italian back down to the canvas.

Once again Paterni made it back to his feet inside the 10 count, but referee Dean Wilson waved off the fight deeming Paterni unfit to continue.

These headline bouts, and the Gareth Longstaff v Tony Dodds match – voted Amateur Fight Of The Night by EFC fan base on facebook – will be aired at 9pm tonight on SKY192 and Freesat402.
