-

A JURY has gone out to begin deliberating in the case of an acclaimed headteacher who is charged with having sex with a 13- year- old boy in the late 1980s.

Anne Lakey, 54, of Stanley, County Durham, said she was shocked and horrified when the allegation that she had a sexual relationship with the teenager was made in December 2012.

She was chief executive of the Durham Federation of Schools and had won national praise for taking failing school Fyndoune Community College and turning it into one of the most improved in the country, Durham Crown Court has heard.

The complainant wrote an email to the school claiming she had sex with him in the 1980s when he was 13 and she was a history teacher at Sandhill View, in Sunderland, and Lakey was arrested.

The man, who was not a pupil, told the jury she became flirtatious when he visited her marital home and on one occasion they played a dare game and he fondled her breasts.

She would let him chat to her as she bathed and on one occasion she allegedly took his virginity while he was still in his school uniform, the court heard.

Lakey, a mother of one, denies four counts of indecent assault and two of indecency with a child.

The jury was sent home and will continue deliberating from 10am today.
