Advice after sneak- in burglaries
PEOPLE in Sunderland are being urged to lock their doors and windows after two sneak- in burglaries.
Overnight between Sunday and Monday, there were two burglaries in Stratford Avenue in Hendon.
In one, a porch door was unlocked and in the other a rear patio door was unlocked.
Cash, jewellery and booze, as well as electrical items such as a laptops, a DVD player, iPhone and a tablet, were stolen.
Neighbourhood Inspector Jamie Southwell said: “During this time of year people tend to spend more time outdoors and it’s vital they make sure homes are secure if they’ve been in and out of the garden through doors to their home, including patio doors.
“Opportunist thieves are known to walk down a street trying door handles so it’s vital people take a few moments to make sure doors and windows to homes are locked, particularly overnight.
“Even during the day when outside it’s important people are vigilant and make sure any doors or windows they don’t have sight of are locked. By taking a few crime prevention steps people can reduce their risk of falling victim to such a crime.
“We’re carrying out enquiries into these burglaries in an effort to trace those responsible and I’d urge any witnesses or anyone with information about these burglaries to get in touch.”
Anyone with information on the burglaries, is asked to contact police on 101 ext 69191, quoting references 801 or 190 30/ 06/ 14, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
