Pals in tandem for fund- raising cycle
PUB workers will pull together as they pedal their way across country.
Matthew Alldis, manager of Fitzgeralds pub in Green Terrace, will join the bar’s cleaner Paul Bolden as they take part in a C2C ride on a tandem.
They will be joined by a host of friends as they tackle the route, which will take them around 150 miles from Workington to Seaburn over three days, starting tomorrow.
They hope to raise as much cash as they can for a charity which helps research the eye condition retinitis pigmentosa, which Paul suffers from.
The condition causes the eyesight to fail and is expected to leave Paul blind.
Matthew said: “Being both his boss and his friend, I think it’s important the research continues to be developed. It’s a degenerative condition and I hope the scientists can get a better understanding of it, because I know they have already made some progress, and hopefully they’ll find a cure. We did the C2C a few years ago, but Paul’s eyesight has degenerated to the point where he couldn’t do it without help, so we got in touch with a charity called Charlotte Tandems, which has given us a bike to use for a couple of months and we’ve been doing our training on it.”
