Scout out a retro bargain at thriving vintage store
Writers with a passion for fashion are invited to get together at a thriving vintage store. Scout Vintage, in Sunderland, which opened in October last year, is the brainchild of businesswoman Angela Kirtley.
The former pub landlady swapped pint glasses for prints to launch a new fashion venture, specialising in fashion- forward retro numbers.
Now she scours auction and wholesalers looking for stock to fill up the shop in Frederick Street.
Her colourful haul of vintage gems has included classic Burberry jackets and Adidas polo shirts, graphic print dresses and even teetering Vivienne Westwood heels.
Angela, originally from Newcastle, said: “Some of them are from private sales – people who collect bags and rooms full of handbags and need to get rid of them, or people who have businesses similar to mine who are selling up or want to make room for more stock, auctions, all sorts of places.”
She spends Tue s - day to Saturday working in Scout and Mondays searching for new stock, which she hopes will pull in fashion- savvy customers.
She added: “I think people like places like this because they can find a bargain. Everyone likes a bargain, and people get bored with getting the same things and going to the same shops.”
Now after 10 months in business, Scout is hosting an evening of fashion and beauty for journalists and bloggers, which will take place at the store on July 17 from 6pm to 9pm. Entrance is by invite only.
