Keithley sets seal on impressive West End derby triumph

SUNDERLAND West End gained the derby bragging rights over Ashbrooke Belford House in last night’s showdown at Silksworth.

Anth Nelson’s side went in front on 27 minutes as Lee Smith drove past home goalkeeper Brett Wilson.

Barry Turton then maintained his outstanding record of having scored in every game bar one when he doubled West End’s lead just before the hour mark and it was all over for Ashbrooke as David Keithley converted a 75thminute penalty. Five minutes from time, Nathan Burrell headed in a consolation for Ashbrooke.

Horden CW leap- frogged Whitehaven into fourth position – their highest rating this season – when they defeated the Cumbrians 2- 0 at Welfare Park.

Jonathan Payne headed past goalkeeper Ian Studholme in the 20th minute and 11 minutes later Darren Atkinson drove low into the bottom corner of the net.

Horden are now nine points behind leaders Stockton Town, who conceded their first points of the season in a 2- 2 draw at Cleator Moor Celtic.

When Tony Johnson and Stephen Roberts struck, it appeared Stockton were on their way to a 13th consecutive victory, but they were pegged back by second- half goals from Darren Liddle and Luke Close.

Boldon CA just edged Wolviston 1- 0 with a Liam Clarke strike, while the South Tyneside derby between Harton and Westoe and Jarrow ended with honours even.

Andy Wilkinson slotted home for Jarrow’s opener on 46 minutes, but Ricky Brown’s cross was headed in by Shaun Flood for Harton’s leveller 12 minutes later.

Adam Preston and Jamie Lee earned Redcar Athletic the points at home to Prudhoe Town, who played the last 18 minutes with 10 men following the dismissal of Stephen Forster.
