Nissan plant is wired for future
NISSAN is on the lookout for a bunch of bright sparks.
The company is looking for eight time- served electricians as it gears up for the introduction of more new models.
The Sunderland plant will start building a sporty new Nismo version of its popular Juke model this year, and is preparing to start production on the latest addition to Nissan’s luxury Infiniti marque.
The new recruits will start work straight away as part of the company’s Enhanced Training Skills ( ETS) scheme, which means they will spend the first six months in a development programme that will prepare them to join the company’s maintenance team.
Chris Grindley, 28, from ChesterleStreet, is a former installation electrician who joined the company two years ago through the previous ETS recruitment drive.
He said: “I was pretty intimidated when I left my previous job to come to Nissan, but I received great training from day one and the team gave me all the help and support that I needed. Since then, I have never looked back.”
Chris has had the opportunity to travel abroad to commission new equipment and says none of it would have been possible without the ETS.
“It is a bridge for people like myself who come from an electrical background to become multiskilled maintenance technicians,” he added. “The course will remain an unforgettable experience, not to mention you join the company as a permanent member of staff on full pay.
“I’d say to people there’s nothing to lose and everything to gain from the ETS.”
