OAPs have young stars in their eyes
KIND- hearted youngsters are giving up their time to entertain the elderly.
A group of 11- year- olds, from Showstopper dance and drama group, are to visit residents of Hylton View care home.
The talented children have volunteered their time to help older people who suffer with dementia.
Group organiser Amy Pink, 32, of Plains Farm, came up with the idea to spend time with the home residents after visiting her grandmother, Lily Pink, 73.
“The kids were really keen on the idea and wanted to go in and entertain the residents,” she said.
“They are really strong singers, so they will be singing and doingstuff for people.”
The group includes Jacee Pink, 11, and Mia Carney, 11, who both reached the national finals of UKwide talent competition Teenstar.
Mum- of- two Amy, is also organising a Christmas family event, at the Queen Victoria pub, Harbour View, Roker, which will raise funds for the care home, and is encouraging others to get behind the event and support the facility.
“We aren’t asking people to give money,” she said.
“Just to give a little of their time to help out and entertain the residents.
“Half an hour or 45 minutes once a week isn’t a lot of time to give up. It would be nice to get people to come forward and perform at the unit.”
The family event will take place on December 21.
