WHAT a season it has been for the league- leading SAFC Ladies.

Not only are they standing at the top of the Women’s Super League ( WSL) 2, they have also been nominated for a Best of Wearside award.

The news was warmly welcomed by Sonia Kulkarni, the general manager of the Ladies who said it was just reward for some fantastically hard work by the team.

Sonia added: “I am absolutely delighted that someone has taken the time to nominate the team. The girls have worked incredibly hard to get to where they are today, all whilst holding down full- time jobs or studying.

“It is fantastic for the girls’ commitment and achievements to be recognised alongside the other worthy contenders in the Best of Wearside Awards.”

Sunderland Ladies are one win away from sealing promotion to WSL1 and hope to add to their success by lifting the Sunderland Echo Best of Wearside crown in the sporting achievement category.

The search is on for even more contenders for this year’s awards.

Our aim is to honour those unsung stars who go the extra mile to help others, and we can only do that if you come forward with nominations.

We have already received entries for contenders in the sporting achievement, community group and child of courage categories. But we want even more and that’s where you can help.

Perhaps it’s the unassuming next door neighbour who spends their spare time making a difference in their community.

It may be the reluctant hero who has risked their own safety to help others.

Or it could be the courageous person who has spent their life tackling illness with dignity and bravery.

Whatever the story, we know there are heroes galore who are worthy of awards. Tell us about them. The awards will culminate in a grand finale at the Stadium of Light on Wednesday, November 19.

For now, though, we want you to get in touch with your very own heroes.

All you need to is fill in the nomination form below or visit the Sunderland Echo website at http:// www. sunderlandecho. com/ and fill in the online application form.
