ASHBROOKE SPORTS CLUB REVEL INFLICT FIRST DEFEAT ON THIRD DIVISION CHAMPIONS ELECT IN A THRILLER
Ashbrooke Sports Club became the first team to beat The Lansdowne in Division Three this season, edging home 2-1 in an exciting topof-the-table clash.
A goal of the season contender from Lewis Collinson opened the scoring for Ashbrooke, but Lansdowne equalised with a well-taken penalty from John Hope-Hindmarsh.
The second half saw Ashbrooke dominate, creating chance after chance, until David Dixon scored his 22nd goal of the season to seal the victory for Ashbrooke and leave the home side waiting another week to seal the title.
Nathan Renton ran the show for impressive Ashbrooke.
Andy McIntyre and Reece Cummings struck to down Martin Telfer Carpets, who did not have an answer to Washington Colliery’s resolute defence. Trotter shone for Telfer.
The Lakeside and Mill View CIU played out a typical endof-season game, which ended 1-1. Richardson’s cheeky rabona goal put Mill View in front, but a late home surge saw Mark Barrass equalise.
Bradley Timm and Frazer New were the respective star men.
Hendon Athletic got another win under their belt to edge closer to the runners-up spot in Division Four, running out comfortable winners against plucky Westmount.
Bri Carter was Athletic’s star man, popping up with two goals, a trademark freekick and a 40-yard lob to embarrass the keeper. Martin Hope proved why he is the best striker in Hendon, devastatingly hitting five past goals on his own. Keeper Steven Dixon was Westmount’s star performer.
Ryhope CW pipped Park View 5-4 in a classic bottom-of-the-table scrap.
Ryhope had the Brooke twins scoring, Anthony and Brent both volleying past Troy Baker in the Park View goal. But the visitors fired back through a double from star man Daniel Nkemjika.
The lively Ryhope lads responded to go 5-2 up, thanks to Smart, Pattison and Brad Anderson.
Park View still weren’t finished and Ryhope were left to hang on as Clark Robinson came of the bench to fire a double, but Ryhope defended well to see out the win.
Victoria Gardens added another three points to their increasing total after they disposed of Wearmouth CW Juniors in a 7-2 win.
Devlin was among the scorers for Gardens, while Wilkinson and Hardy replied for Wearmouth and young Patrick Crombie was outstanding between the sticks.
Wear United dominated the early stages at Woodlands and Michael Parkin rounded the keeper to slot home their first.
Woodlands levelled after the break, Middlemas lashing home from six yards after the first effort was brilliantly blocked by Bowman.
United immediately hit back after Sheriff found a great ball and dinked it over the oncoming keeper. Middlemas, though, again came to Woodlands’ rescue, volleying home a corner to level.
Michael Wilson shone for Woodlands.
Hylton Castle TWR Bifold Doors will meet RCA Grangetown Florists in the Total Sport Challenge Trophy semi-finals.
TWR produced a dominant performance to outgun Division One leaders Redhouse Last Orders 6-1. Tom Callaghan was on fire as he scored four goals, followed by a Keiron Martin goal.
Redhouse hit back through Paul Stokoe, but sub David Ward smashed home a sixth.
Fourth Division leaders East Rainton proved their worth and took RCA Florists all the way in their quarterfinal.
The Premier outfit had to work hard for a 3-2 win. Andy Place’s brace put RCA in a comfortable lead before Caris and Hardy levelled it up, but the hosts’ class told and John Turney hit the winner.
SR Dons made a statement with a 5-1 demolition of Hendersons Butchers.
Graham Stephenson was man of the match with a welltaken hat-trick, Chris Laws and David Hall finished the scoring for- Dons, while Alan Bate replied with a stunning 50-yard lob that had the capacity crowd on its feet.
