Cyclist Brian Davison is trying to track down Good Samaritans who helped him after an accident.

Brian, 47, needed hospital treatment after he fell from his bike when he hit the kerb while swerving to avoid a car in Front Street, East Boldon, on Thursday morning.

Now he is trying to trace a young man and two women who came to his aid and waited with him until an ambulance arrived.

He said: “The people who were there were absolutely unbelievable.

“I cannot thank them enough. I am just very grateful for the help they gave.” Brian, of Whitburn Terrace, East Boldon, spent about 45 minutes waiting to be taken to hospital, after the first ambulance which arrived was unable to take him.

He said: “The ambulance drivers were fantastic, but the first ambulance that turned up didn’t have a spinal board because they had just used it on their last job.

“I had surgery on my neck last year, so they were very concerned about whether I might have damaged it again.

“I only started cycling on the recommendation from my physiotherapist as a way to get myself out and about.”

Retired prison officer Brian wants to thank the young man and two women.

He said: “I don’t have a clue who they were, but for them to spend that time with me was very comforting.

“My partner Kirsty is a policewoman and she actually attended. She spoke with the people who were there, but forgot to get their names.

“One couple who lived nearby brought my bike round the next day and we got them a thank you card and some chocolates.”
