Lethal Lumley leave league leaders shell-shocked

South Hylton fell to a shock 3-2 home defeat to Lumley B, but they still lead the way at the top of Division One of the Danby Autos Sunderland Snooker League.

Washington A claimed the bragging rights when they beat their A team 4-1 to leave them still in with a shout for the title.

Steels travelled to Whitburn and got off to a good start, thanks to Tommy Ayre, but Graeme Ablett levelled the match in the next frame.

Ray Charlton Jnr started the third frame strongly with a 24 break, but a 31 break helped John Smith pinch the frame.

Tony Hazard potted well to win the fourth frame. In the pairs, Ray Charlton Jnr/Lee Norton beat John Smith/Graeme Ablett on the final black to reduce the defeat to 3-2.

Tommy Gwyn got Glendale off to a good start away at Biddick B.

Michael Simpson levelled the match before John Danby potted well to win the third frame.

John Temple and Paul Atkinson had a tussle in the fourth frame before Temple won the frame, but Tommy Gwyn/Frank McParlin won the pairs 74-54 for the 3-2 win.

In the re-arranged game between Biddick B and Green Baize, Biddick B edged out their rivals 3-2.

Philip Straughan/Paul Cobb claimed the decisive frame when they beat Peter Dambrosie/Gary Simpson in the pairs frame.

Biddick A travelled to Green Baize and got off to a great start, thanks to Steven Tate. Gary Simpson levelled the match before Terry Froud moved Biddick back into the lead.

Shaun Martin levelled the match, but Dave Adamson/ Rod Turnbull won the pairs 51-40 for the 3-2 win.

Mill View B hold a twopoint lead over their A team after a 3-2 win at home to Seaham Conservatives in Division Two.

However, third placed Lumley A have a game in hand so a close finish is expected.

Mill View A are finishing strongly and an excellent 4-1 win away at Cheemas kept their promotion hopes alive.

And in a re-arranged match, Mill View A destroyed Murton Colliery 5-0.

Still in with a chance of promotion, Lumley A easily beat Pennywell Comrades 4-1 win.

Murton Colliery edged to a narrow 3-2 victory over The Railway, thanks to Stephen Cook/Eddie Williamson, who won the deciding frame.

The match between The Victory and Murton Officials was expected to be close and the singles alternated into a 2-2 situation before Murton took the pairs for the overall 3-2 result.
