Delivering health and wellbeing

-

A Seaham-based company has been promoting good health within its workforce by holding a special event.

The Better Health at Work scheme saw mailing house MetroMail present a health and wellbeing roadshow for its staff at its Wearside head office.

The aim of the scheme is to raise awareness among employees, men in particular, and follows a similar, successful event held last year.

The workforce at MetroMail is predominantly male and they were invited to talk to a number of healthrelated companies, with experts from each organisation speaking on a range of topics.

MetroMail staff were able to chat with representatives from companies such as Well Being, Check for Life, East Durham Belles, NHS Bowel Cancer, NHS Stop Smoking, Forever Living and AXA Life Insurance amongst many others.

MetroMail performance evaluation manager Debbie Charlton, who helps to organise the events, said: “Not only do we recognise that healthier staff means less absences but through staff engagement we want them to take the time, whilst in the workplace to discuss any health issues that may be of concern.

“It also gives them the chance to pick up tips on how they can be generally healthier, especially our male staff who typically tend not to go to their GP to discuss their health worries.”

“A roadshow such as this gives them the chance to informally chat about topics which ordinarily they may not do.

“We are extremely aware of how life can be busy and fitting everything in can be difficult.”

The company’s scheme is presented in partnership with the NHS.
