Community groups are being called upon to get involved in an annual Wearside festival which is now just weeks away.

The 2016 Houghton Feast festival takes place from Friday, October 7, until Sunday, October 16.

A highlight of the fun has for decades been the annual carnival parade and procession, this year taking place on Saturday, October 8.

Organisers from Houghton’s Round Table group are now urging those who want to take part in the colourful procession, which features classic cars and vehicles, to contact them with applications.

The parade begins at the rear of Houghton Library car park, in Station Road, before journeying through the town centre.

Floats are then sent to be judged by Mayor of Sunderland, Coun Alan Emerson, in The Broadway.
