Awesome Ava gets results to savour

-

Teenager Ava Napper really is a star pupil after achieving a full house of 12 A*s in her GCSEs at Whitburn Church of England Academy.

The hard work of the teenager’s year group has helped the school hit its best results to date when it comes to pupils achieving at least a C grade in both English and maths.

Principal Alan Hardie said: “I am absolutely thrilled at the results the pupils have achieved this year.

“They have exceeded all expectations.

Ava, 16, plans to remain at Whitburn Academy to study maths, further maths, physics and chemistry at its sixth form.

She said: “I just wasn’t expecting it at all. I had to double check that I read it right in the first place.

Other star pupils at the school include Anna Horribin, 16, from Boldon, who achieved 10 A*s and one A.

She said: “I just feel good, asallthehardworkhaspaidoff. Ifeelabitoverwhelmed.I’mnot sure what I want to do yet.”

Students at Boldon School were praised by their headteacher as they picked up their GCSE results.

The percentage of pupils gaining five or more GCSEs at grades A* to C was 57 per cent, the same as last year, but the number of students gaining A* - C grade in English rose by 7% to 85% compared to last year’s figures.

Headteacher Elizabeth Hayes said: “We have had a lot of students who have done incredibly well.”
