Karanka joy as Boro seal loan for Chambers
Middlesbrough boss Aitor Karanka has hailed the addition of Arsenal defender Callum Chambers on a season-long loan deal.
Thethree-timescapped England international can play at centre-back or right-back and Karanka said of the 21-year-old: “I’m really pleased.
It’s a position where we’ve been working towards bringing the right player in.
“We haven’t been in a hurry because Calum was the player we were waiting for, and he’s going to help us a lot.
“I’d like to say thank you to him because we know he had another offer, but he wanted to come here. That’s important and we’re looking forward to working with him.”
Meanwhile, 21-year-old Boro right-back Brad Halliday has joined League Two strugglers Cambridge United for an undisclosed fee.
Halliday did not make a first-team appearance for Boro, but has had extensive experience on loan at York, Hartlepool and Accrington.
Boro have also let defender Adam Jackson join Championship club Barnsley on a three-year contract, for an undisclosed fee.
“He is ready for the challenge of the Championship,” said Barnsley head coach Paul Heckingbottom, the former Sunderland left-back.
“His ball distribution, speed, and ability to bring the ball out from the back fits perfectly into our playing style.”
Jackson will fill the gap left at Oakwell by Alfie Mawson’s move to Swansea City.
