Pochettino evades talk of Barca switch

-

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has sidestepped suggestions that he could be next in line to take over at Barcelona.

Barca’s season is on the brink of collapse after they were thrashed 4-0 by Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on Tuesday.

They also trail table-topping Real Madrid by a point in La Liga, having played two games more. Speculation has intensified over the future of Barca boss Luis Enrique and Pochettino is sure to be a contender if the Camp Nou management changes.

Asked about if he would be interested in taking over, Pochettino said: “I can’t say anything about that. I’m at Tottenham. I am very happy, I have four more years on my contract, I’m enjoying an exciting project. It’s true it’s not an easy project, but I’m very happy here.”

Tottenham take on Belgian side Gent in the first leg of the Europa League last 32 tonight.

Pochettino said: “Maybe we will make some changes, but not too many.”

Zinedine Zidane praised the way his Real Madrid side hit back from the shock of conceding an early opener to put one foot in the Champions League quarter-finals with a 3-1 first leg win over Napoli.

Lorenzo Insigne’s stunning eighth-minute opener threatened to give the Italians the first-leg advantage, but Real were level within 10 minutes through Karim Benzema before second-half strikes from Toni Kroos and Casemiro turned the tie around.

Zidane said: “We played a great game – it was a shame about the Napoli goal but we rectified things, scored ourselves and turned the game on its head. It was the right result.”

Aberdeen crushed Motherwell 7-2 to go three points clear of Rangers in second place in the Scottish Premiership. Boss Derek McInnes said: “I’m absolutely delighted with the level of performance.”
