Sunderland Embroidere­rs’ Guild will meet in St Aidan’s Parish Centre, New Herrington, on Saturday, March 18, at 2pm. This will take the form of a Spring Event, including embroidery Supplies stalls, a cake stall, raffle and tombola, plus refreshmen­ts. Admission is £2 and all are welcome.

Herrington Flower Club will meet on Monday, March 13, at 7.30pm in St Chad’s Church hall, Durham Road. The demonstrat­ors will be John Dalton, from Carlisle. Visitors welcome, pay £4. (Fosums) will meet on Saturday in Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens, Burdon Road at 2pm. Speaker will John Sadler on the Magna Carta. Visitors are welcome, charge £2.

Sunderland Pianoforte Society will meet in the Sunderland Pottery Room at Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens, Burdon Road, on Tuesday, March 14,at 7.15pm. Guest will be Harry Nowakowski-Fox. Programme will include: Bach: Partita No.2, Beethoven: Sonata Op.53 (Waldstein), Chopin: Fantasie in F minor Op.49, Schumann: Kreisleria­na. Membership is full subscripti­on (six recitals) £60, individual recitals £12.50, accompanie­d children (16 and under) free, full-time students and those in receipt of unemployme­nt benefit, £6.

Friends of the Donnison School trip to Bowes Museum and Barnard Castle takes place on Saturday, March 18. Places are still available, cost £10 for coach only. Coach and reduced price entry to museum £17, a saving of £3.50 per person. Coach will leave Burdon Road near Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens. The next Lovell Lecture at the Donnison School will be on Monday, March 20, from 1pm to 3pm. Speaker will be Pauline Hilton on It’s a Small World – East End Family History. Entrance is £3 for visitors, members £2.50, which includes refreshmen­ts.

Hooky, Clippy and Proggy workshops are being held at Donnison School by the school’s clippy mat lady Margaret. Next session is on Friday from 10.30am to noon. For more details, ring 0191 5654835.

Sunderland Antiquaria­n Society Archives at the Sunderland Antiquaria­n and Heritage Centre, 6 Douro Terrace are open for research Wednesdays and Saturdays from 9.30am to noon.

Sunderland Maritime Heritage Centre, 2 Church Street East, is open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10am to 4pm. Admission free and as always if you are interested in volunteeri­ng, pop down for a char.
