A tragic businessman is set to be honoured by a charity fundraiser organised in his name by a Sunderland dentist.

Former print company boss Martyn Young died in February after a forklift accident at the Precision Printing site on Sunderland Enterprise Park, off Wessington Way.

Friend Michael Oliver is raising funds in his honour for the Foundation of Light, having got to know Martyn through the Foundation’s annual cycle challenges.

Michael, from Oliver’s Dental Studio, in East Herrington, has organised a fundraising evening at Durham Cricket Club’s Riverside ground on Saturday, May 6.

He said: “Martyn was a gentle, genuine guy who was a passionate supporter of SAFC and the Foundation.

“I was shocked by his death and wanted to do something in his memory – I wanted something positive to come out of such an awful tragedy.”

Entertainment will include singers Marty Longstaff, Anthony Stringer and Beccy Young, while BBC Look North presenter Jeff Brown will interview wellknown sporting personalities. The night was arranged after Michael spoke to Martyn’s widow Donna, who will attend the event with her family.

Michael added: “I wouldn’t be doing this without her full support – but she liked the idea and now the fundraiser is all coming together.”

The fundraising evening will start at 7.30pm and be hosted by Ray Spencer, the chief executive of The Customs House, in South Shields.

Tables are available for £450, and individual tickets or part tables can be catered for.

To book, call Oliver’s Dental Studio on 0191 5282340 between 9am and 5pm on weekdays, or email Michael at mjoliver73@sky.com

Tickets include a reception drink, a two-course meal and a disco, while there will also be an auction and a raffle.
