The Academy at Shotton Hall hosted a talk from a member of the House of Lords to encourage students to become more engaged with the political and parliamentary process. Lord Shipley met with Year 10 students to talk about the work and role of the House of Lords followed by a question and answer session on various aspects of the parliamentary process and life at Westminster generally. The visit was arranged through the Lord Speaker’s Peers in Schools programme, which has been running across the UK since 2007 and has so far involved about 75,000 young people.
Hole in the Wall clippy mat group meets every Tuesday, from 10am to noon at Horden Youth and Community Centre. Sessions cost £2. If you fancy giving this local craft a go, why not join the weekly meetings to learn new skills in a friendly environment. Group members support one another to create clippy, proggy and raggy mats. for a celebration of Dame Vera Lynn’s 100th birthday, which will bring back memories for many of them.
