The classic musical is a vibrant retelling of the biblical story about Joseph, his 11 brothers and his coat of many colours.

The show was the X Factor winner’s first big break into musical theatre and it’s one that’s earned him rave reviews.

Speaking about donning the famous coat for the Bill Kenwright production, Joe said: “When I was first asked to do the show it was the first time I had been involved in a project that’s this intense – it’s 10 shows a week on a six-month tour.

“There was a certain amount of pressure because so many famous people have played the role and been remembered for it, and I didn’t want to ruin it. But the feedback has been amazing.” Since Joe was crowned X Factor winner in 2009, he’s enjoyed a number one with his debut single The Climb, as well as notching up two more reality TV show victories, winning ITV’s Pop Star to Opera star and Channel 4’s The Jump.

As well as returning to the role of Joseph in January, 2017 has seen Joe release single Gloria last month, as well as announce his much-anticipated fifth album, Saturday Night at the Movies, and a supporting tour, The Gloria Tour, which will see him play Sunderland Empire on August 10.

The former Harton School pupil said: “The album will be released in July which I can’t wait for It’s a busy year, but I feel like bringing Joseph to the arena will be a celebration of the year, it’s the icing on the cake.” He added: “Ask any young person from the area involved in performing arts what stage they dream of performing on and it’s the arena,”

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is at Metro Radio Arena from December 19-31. Tickets are on sale now from the arena box office on Tel. 0844 493 6666.
