Time to show resolve

- By Richard Ord

If you’re held up at a concert venue because of extra bag searches ... suck it up.

Caught in traffic delays caused by unexpected security measures on our roads? ... suck it up.

Events cancelled or postponed with little or notice? ... suck it up.

Now is not the time to moan, complain or kick up a fuss because we’re being inconvenienced in our daily lives.

Be thankful we can get on with our lives. There are many who attended the Manchester Arena this week who cannot.

As we reveal today, our community – like our nation – is on high alert.

Our police, emergency services and council leaders are drawing up plans to protect the public in the aftermath of the Manchester bombing.

In our capital we have troops on the streets. Armed police have been patrolling major cities on our doorstep. We may well see the same on our streets in the coming days. It’s not what we want to see, but it’s necessary to ensure our safety ... suck it up.

Those who wish to destroy our way of life by terrorising us into submission will look to exploit any weakness. We fight back with defiance.

There are family events planned for the summer and it’s only right, in light of the Manchester attack, that all precautions are taken to protect the public.

We can play our part by extra vigilant in all that we do.

But we can also play a part by showing patience and understanding.

Things are not going to be easy, but we must grin and bear it, show resolve and carry on.

There can be only one winner in this war against terror.

Whatever’s thrown your way ... suck it up.
