WEST END ON A HIGH AS BRAD LEADS WAY

FORD QUARRY MEN JOINT TOP OF WEARSIDE LEAGUE AFTER SINKING SHIELDS RESERVES

Sunderland West End are joint top of the TWR Bifolds Wearside League after securing their fifth win of the season last night.

They defeated South Shields Reserves 3-1 at Ford Quarry, after taking an early lead through Brad Wilson’s strike.

Graham Pickering saved a penalty to maintain the lead, andWilsonc­apitalised­tofire home his second goal to double the lead before half-time.

Nathan Burrell made it 3-0 with a bullet header on 63 minutes, making the game safe, despite a Jake McDermott shot giving the visitors a consolatio­n goal.

Silksworth CW drew 2-2 at home to Richmond Town in an entertaini­ng clash.

David Stevens cut in form the left and hit a 25-yarder into the corner of the net, putting Silksworth one up.

Scott Ryan equalised on 50 minutes, when his curling effort flew beyond the keeper into the far corner.

Adam Storey finished off a right-wing cross 15 minutes later, restoring the home advantage, but Wayne Gredziak flicked home a header from a long throw to ensure a share of the spoils.

Boldon CA were beaten 1-0 at Annfield Plain, with the crucial goal coming from Aaron Wilkinson in the 75th minute. Harton and Westoe CW beat Leam Rangers 3-1. Harton took the lead through Dan Sirrell on 24 minutes, only for Nicky Langston to equalise just after half-time. Andrew Burdon and Kyle Oxley guided Harton home.

Lowly Coxhoe Athletic stunned morning leaders Wolviston with a 3-1 away success.

After a goalless first half, Coxhoe deservedly went ahead through Brandon Moran after 55 minutes, then Peter Brown lobbed the goalkeeper for a brilliant second goal.

Paul Playfor made it 3-0 from the spot, before Jake Stott scored a late consolatio­n for the hosts.

Hartlepool outgunned Stokesley SC 7-1, hitting six second-half goals.

Jamie Tumilty (2), Mike Snowdon, Ash Clark, John Stephenson (2) and Kieran Campbell notched.

Leaders Cleator Moor Celtic, above West End on goal difference, hammered Darlington Reserves 4-1.

Nathan Stephenson gave the Quakers a first-minute lead, but Ryan Hall and a hattrick from Callum Birdsall turned it around.

Brandon United beat Esh Winning 3-1 in the Ebac Northern League Second Division last night, thanks to a hat-trick from Vinny Gash. Reece Brown replied.

In Division One, Dunston UTS won 3-2 at Guisboroug­h with goals from Liam Thear (2) and Mark Fitzpatric­k. Steven Roberts hit both replies.
