The uniform issue continues to generate a string reaction among Echo readers.

Commenting on our Facebook page, Angie Wilkinson said: “The issue is not with the uniform! Almost every school have a specific shop to buy blazers, jumpers, ties etc with the school badge on. No one is dismissing this. The fact is these are grey trousers that are stocked in loads of shops.

“At the end of the day grey trousers are grey trousers, wherever they’re bought. I could understand if they had the school logo or a colour/design suited specifically for the school. But they’re not. They’re just plain, grey trousers!”

Andrew Marc Halverson posted: “I ain’t getting this. If you don’t like the rules of the school don’t send your child there and sign the agreement forms abiding by the school rules. It’s quite simple really. It’s like signing for a mortgage then moaning about the repayments you signed for.”

Cat Pipe wrote: “I can’t see the point of kicking kids out of school for wearing the wrong uniform. Surely if they look smart it should be fine. They always go on about education being a top priority but then go on about trouser being the wrong shade of grey!! I just don’t get it.”

Kate Appleby said: “Nobody is arguing with adherence to uniform policy, it’s the escalating costs when parents are forced to only purchase from one specific retailer.

“Back in the real world, like when I was a nipper, you could purchase your child’s uniform from a number of stockists without fear of being punished. Contrary to current belief, this didn’t impede on anyone I can remember from school in terms of their educational achievements or employment prospects.
