There will be raffles, competitio­ns, coffee and more . Tiny Toes Toddlers playgroup, for birth to five-yearolds, will also be holding a Macmillan Coffee Morning from 9.30am to 11.30am. Toddler session costs £1.50 per child plus cake. It will then be closed for two weeks for holidays, reopening on October 16, from 9.30am to 11.30am, when Close Creatures with live animals will be visiting. Identity Hair and Beauty will be holding a Macmillan Coffee Morning on Saturday from 9am to 4pm. Cakes, biscuits and pies will be on sale with tea and coffee as well. Holiday Inn has a lot of activities coming up next month including a wedding open evening on October 5. An ’80s disco party night will be held on October 13 at 7pm. Dr Simon Lowes, from the QE Gateshead Breast Cancer Unit, was the guest of the Rotary Club of Washington, when members met in the George Washington Hotel. He spoke about the procedures of breast cancer detection, treatment as well as research into medication effects. He covered breast tumour localisati­on prior to surgery, saying the aim of modern surgery, where possible, is to remove to the tumour in isolation rather than the whole breast.
