TAXI FIRM SHOWS OFF ITS NEW LIVERY IN A DEMONSTRAT­ION OF SUPPORT FOR THE 2018 TALL SHIPS EVENT

A Sunderland taxi firm is on board with The Tall Ships Races – and it’s got new artwork to prove it.

Station Taxis has shown its colours with a new logo, and received praise from Sunderland City Council.

Next year, up to 80 ships will arrive at the Port of Sunderland for the event – which runs from Wednesday, July 11, to Saturday, July 14.

Councillor John Kelly, Sunderland City Council’s Portfolio Holder for Public Health, Wellness and Culture, said: “This is helping spread the word about what is sure to be one of the largest events Sunderland has ever hosted.

“The Tall Ships Races Sunderland 2018 will provide local business with a huge range of opportunit­ies to be involved in supporting the iconic spectacle.”

The event is expected to bring up to an additional £35million to the local econing omy with local businesses best-placed to benefit.

Among businesses already showing their support are Gentoo, The Bridges Sunderland, Station Taxis and the Port of Sunderland.

Trevor Hines, manag- director of Station Taxis (Sunderland) Ltd, said; “The Tall Ships Races in Sunderland will showcase everything our city has to offer and will be a great boost to the city and the region next summer.”
