BOLDON BOSS OUT TO DEAL ANOTHER BLOW TO WEST END

TWR BIFOLDS WEARSIDE LEAGUE: VISITORS LOOKING TO KEEP UP FORM IN THIRD MEETING OF THE SEASON

Boldon CA travel the short distance to Sunderland West End for their Total Sport Alan Hood Charity Cup second round clash tomorrow.

Manager Paul Mossa welcomes the break from league action and is looking forward to the cup game at Ford Quarry (2.30pm kick-off ).

Mossa’s team have taken four points in the league from West End already this term, but knows he will have to have his team in the right frame of mind if he wants to progress in the cup, as the Wearsiders are enjoying a much-improved campaign.

Boldon are still without top goalscorer Adam Bell, but are hoping that Jonny Gage, Paul Trosh, Shaun Graham and Jonny Matthews all pass fitness tests.

In the same cup, Hartlepool travel down the coast to take on Redcar Athletic.

Lee Jones, Patrick Mulvey, Callum Short and Jack Swales are expect to return, to the squad.

Manager Terry Hill said: “We played some excellent football at Silksworth in last week’s win and, but for the home goalkeeper, we could have won by a bigger score, despite having late call-offs due to work commitment­s and injuries.”

In the second round of the TWR Shipowners Charity Cup, Silksworth CW welcome Coxhoe Athletic to Silksworth Welfare Park.

The Wearsiders’ squad will be bolstered by the return of striker Stephen Moody and winger David Stevens, who both missed last week’s game.

Their new signing, centrehalf Matthew Hampton, will also come into contention.

Manager Andrew Stobbart said: “After a disappoint­ing result last week, where we performed well for 45 minutes, we will be looking to put in an all-round performanc­e in the cup match.

“We recently drew with them 2-2 at home, so know that it will be a game where we need to perform at our best to win.” In the first round, Prudhoe Town take on Hebburn Town Reserves and secretary Colin Thompson said: “We played them in the league last Saturday and got beat 2-1, however we played very well.

“We are looking forward to the cup game this week and our manager has said that he’s expecting the same performanc­e as the last game.

“We will have a couple of late fitness tests, however we have started to build on the squad, so hopefully we can start moving forward and get some good results.”

Hebburn Town Reserves manager Kevin Bolam said: “Scott McCullough is unavailabl­e to us and Ryan Bolam is out injured, however, Nathan Richardson should return to the squad. We had a good win in midweek against Sunderland West End and I was really pleased with the performanc­e.

“We’ll take that momentum into the game, but we know it will be a hard game.”

Leam Rangers entertain Darlington Reserves at Hilltop in the preliminar­y round of the Monkwearmo­uth Charity Cup.

In the TWR Bifolds Wearside League, South Shields Reserves host Stokesley SC and go into the game on the back of consecutiv­e victories.

Manager Leepaul Scroggins will again be without Adam Hutchinson due to injury, however his side will be strengthen­ed by the addition of Vilius Makaravici­us, following receipt of his internatio­nal clearance from the Scottish FA.

Harton and Westoe CW travel to high-flying Cleator Moor Celtic and secretary Kevin Gibson said: “As usual with trips Cumbria, we will be travelling with a depleted squad due to work commitment­s, but that’s just the way it goes.

“Goalkeeper Kevin Garrick, defenders Kieren Laverick and Jack Fawcett, midfielder­s Cory and Jordan Fenwick, as well as Jean-Pierre Parracho are all definitely missing.”

Gibson added: “Skipper Jason Pressling will undergo a fitness test and there may be an additional signing coming into the squad.

“We are a very young squad and manager David Crumbie is determined to bring youngsters from our junior teams into the squad.

“Sixteen-year-old Harley Davison is already a key member of the squad and over the coming months there will be a lot more youngsters stepping up.”
