Kane: It’s so special to clinch trip to Russia
England star Harry Kane enjoyed an “amazing feeling” after guiding the national team to next summer’s World Cup finals in Russia.
The in-form Tottenham striker struck three minutes into stoppage time to bag the only goal in last night’s qualifying victory over Slovakia at Wembley.
That guaranteed top spot in Group F and automatic qualification for the finals. Kane admitted: “It was frustrating at times out there. “We had to be patient. “In the last 10 minutes, they were getting tired and we created a few opportunities.
“I was just happy to put one in the back of the net at the end.
“It feels amazing to get [to the World Cup]. “It’s no easy feat nowadays. “Other top countries around the world are struggling to qualify, so to qualify with one game to go, we’re all delighted – that’s job done for us.”
Meanwhile, England will start their World Cup preparations with friendlies against Germany and Brazil next month.
England will face Germany for the third time in less than 20 months on November 10 after the reigning World Cup winners secured their place in Russia with a 3-1 victory in Northern Ireland.
Five-time world champions Brazil, the first team to seal their place at next summer’s finals, will then head to Wembley on November 14 in what is another 8pm kick-off.
It is understood that a trip to Holland has been lined-up in March, with the FA now able to start rubberstamping tournament preparations that are well under way.
