A man was due to appear in court today after being charged following an alleged hit and run in Sunderland which left two victims seriously injured.

Omar Bakali, 24, of Hopefield Avenue, Brent, London, has been charged with two accounts of assault, causing serious injury by dangerous driving, failing to stop, driving otherwise in accordance with licence and driving without insurance.
Northumbria Police is continuing to investigate the incident, which took place on Hylton Road, in Sunderland, on Monday, October 2, and left two people with serious injuries.
A witness appeal has been launched, with officers taking the decision to release CCTV footage.
Detective Chief Inspector Lee Gosling said: “As you can see from the footage, this is a horrific incident, in which a man has been left with serious injuries.
“We need to get the full picture of what happened that evening and so we’re looking to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time who may have seen anything out of the ordinary.”
Bakali was due to appear at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court this morning.
