Clough eager to sort out home form

-

Burton Albion manager Nigel Clough hopes that his men can improve their dismal home form by beating Sunderland at the Pirelli Stadium tomorrow.

The third-bottom Brewers have lost five successive home Championship matches ahead of the visit of the bottom-placed Black Cats.

Burton go into the game on 14 points, three above their visitors, who have managed just a solitary league success.

Albion’s much-improved away form has been a big boost for Sunderland-born Clough, but he is desperate to sort out the home record.

“It’s just at home that’s the problem,” Clough admitted after Tuesday night’s hardearned 1-1 draw at Brentford.

“Away from home I think we’ve defended much better and made far fewer mistakes than we have at the Pirelli. “That’s something we have to address starting this Saturday. It’s strange how it’s turned around this season. “Our away form has been better than the home form, so we are going to have to start getting something at home.” Clough cannot explain why Burton have endured such disappointing form on home turf, while picking up their form on the road.

Only seven points have been secured at the Pirelli this season, 10 fewer than at the same stage last season.

“I’ve no idea,” Clough said, when asked about the discrepancy. “Honestly? I’ve absolutely no idea.

“It’s not as if we’re changing much about the way we play at home or whatever.

“It’s just that we seem to make all of our mistakes at home.”
