Passion that fans needed

- By Richard Ord

‘Coleman’s mustard!’ We wondered how long it woould be before someone used that one .... and we didn’t have to wait too long.

It’s was from a comment fan - elated by the inspired substitution on Saturday afternoon which secured a 0-2 away win at Burton.

The images of Chris Coleman rallying the fans after the final whistle was what Sunderland faithful have been waiting for.

For too long Sunderland have been lacking the passion they fans expect and need.

Sam Allardyce was the last one to do it. The whole debacle around Sam Allardyce’s departure to England was nothing club chiefs could have predicted - but it began a downward spiral for the Black Cats.

It has been evident that the last two managers seemed to have failed to ignite the flame in the players and fans alike.

Sunderland fans need to see that passion not platitudes.

Now le’s not run away with ourselves. It’s one win away from home and the team have yet to secure a longed-for home win.

But it’s a start. Call it good luck or good management - all sporting results and achievements come done to decisions that can end in disaster or glory.

Coleman’s subsitutions on Saturday sparked a super late result. It led to Coleman’s show of passion, it led to amazing scenes of celebration forwhat was just one win from a team at the wrong-end of the table.

But that decision could be the moment that just turns Sunderland’s whole season around.

It’s Reading at home next on Saturday . Could this be the win fans have been waiting for?

There’s one thing that Coleman’s arrival has already brought back - the Roker Roard.
