Tracey’s spirit lives on

- By Richard Ord

“We Still Wish You Were Here.”

The heartfelt sentiment expressed by the family and friends of Tracey Brew is shared by all who lose a loved one all too soon.

Health visitor Tracey died of kidney cancer aged just 47, having spent so much of her career helping others.

But the ‘wish you were here’ sentiment is not just said - it’s displayed on a huge banner accompanying all fundraising activities in her memory.

And, as we reveal today, there have been many.

Husband Simon, children Chris and Steph, and a group of her closest friends have been taking part in many activities including cycle rides, coffee mornings, Great North Runs, hikes and more – all coming under the poignant banner, and have included a live music night at the Grey Horse in East Boldon and a sell-out celebration at Roker Hotel.

The charity champs have so far raised in excess of a five figure sum and hope that as much as £12,000 will be pouring in by the end of their activities.

It’s fantastic that they have turned tragedy into a positive experience.

The recipients of this generosity are the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation and St Benedict’s Hospice, charities that cared for Tracey during her illness.

Organiser Lynda Kerr said: “We want to keep the memory of Tracey Brew alive.

“She was very loved and a truly special person.”

That sentiment is clearly expressed by the tremendous effort people have put in to honour Tracey and raise money for groups so close to her heart.

The fundraisers all wish Tracey was still here... in charitable spirit, she so clearly is.
