DOWN YOUR WAY
carrying a cricket ball. His chosen fundraising charities are DementiaUK and Alzheimer’s Research UK after his Easington mother, Mary’s diagnosis of Vascular Dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease. He thanked Durham County Cricket Club for the use of the ground and providing him with the cricket gear even wearing Ben Stokes’ jumper. He completed it in seven hours and 19 minutes and was supported by his wife, Sue, who stood in the cold and wet all day counting the laps and a handful of friends who ran alongside him for parts of the way. Very grateful to all and of course those who have kindly donated. The fundraising link is still open as he is trying to raise as much cash for the two worthwhile causes that are personally close to his heart. All support and donations will be greatly appreciated. He hopes to reach £4,000. Donations can be made at https://uk.virginmoneygiving. com/fundraiser-display/sh owROFundraiserPage?page Id=869954 Do you like playing bingo? Go along to Hylton Castle Arms on Thursday from 1pm and enjoy tea and a chat in good company. Pat and Maureen would be happy to see you. Everyone is welcome. The Friends of Hetton Lyons Country Park would like to congratulate Hetton Hawks Cycling Club for promoting the HSBC National Cyclox Championships on Saturday and Sunday, January 13 and 14. It was an amazing achievement by Hetton Hawks Cycling Club to be able to hold this prestigious event in the Country Park. The club is to be congratulated on its organisational skills and enthusiasm to hold such a big event. It was quite a daunting task to take on. Everyone in the club should be proud and also the many volunteers who put in so much effort. The Friends hope that now the park has been viewed on national television and has received such a positive responses from both the public and competitors that more events will be held in the country park. The Friends of Hetton Lyons Country Park did a litter pick in and around Stephenson’s Lake Car Park before the event, to make it look more inviting to visitors from all over the country. Five bags of litter and one mattress were collected on the day. Many thanks to the Friends volunteers and Hetton Town Council for providing the equipment.
