Beast can be tamed with care

- By Richard Ord

Snowmageddon didn’t materialise ... but that doesn’t mean it’s not on its way!

The so-called Beast from the East turned out, for the most part, to be a cuddly furball, but we’re being reliably informed that it will bar3 its teeth over the next few days.

As our photographs today show, the dusting of snow was more picture postcard than post-apocalyptic.

The Met Office is issuing amber warnings for heavy snow until Friday, with a yellow warning for Saturday. In other words, you ain’t seen nothing yet.

Which is why we’re reminding readers to take precautions, prepare for all eventualities.

And to help you out, here’s exactly what the Met Office warnings mean.

Yellow: Severe weather expected. Yellow means you should plan ahead thinking about possible travel delays, or the disruption of your day-to-day activities.

Amber: Be prepared for disruption. There is an increased likelihood of bad weather affecting you, which could potentially disrupt your plans and possibly cause travel delays, road and rail closures, interruption to power and the potential risk to life and property.

Red: Extreme weather is expected. Red means you should take action now to keep yourself and others safe from the impact of the weather. Widespread damage, travel and power disruption and risk to life is likely. You must avoid dangerous areas and follow the advice of the emergency services and local authorities.

The Beast of the East will bare its teeth over the next few days, but if you prepare well enough, you can easily avoid being bitten.

Take care.
