Red Lion roar into next round after beating Chilton Lodge

In the Alan Smith Memorial Trophy, sponsored by Castle Insurance, Coxhoe Red Lion eased to a 5-1 win over Houghton Chilton Lodge.

Chilton WMC edged to a 3-1 win over Westwood in a heated game, thanks to Michael Searby (2) and Kevin McWaters goals.

Houghton Wild Boar All Stars started poorly and never recovered in their game against Brandon Sports.

Brandon Sports raced into a 3-0 half-time lead, with Dan Hunter pulling a goal back for Boar on the hour mark.

However, a further two from Brandon’s Steve Halliday made it 5-1.

In the League Cup, sponsored by Workwear Express, Ouston Cherry Tree defeated Bishop Middleham 8-3.

Cherry’s goals came from Chad Brennan (3), Josh Fryer (2), Jak Gordon, Thomas Gray and Zak Scott.

In an all Premier Division clash, a strike from Graham Embleton was enough for Pelton RAOB to win 1-0 at Burnside WMC.

In the Presidents Trophy, sponsored by Stepys Coaches, Lumley won 4-1 away at Bede Lodge Social.

Ferryhill Comm Hub’s game against Ushaw Moor Cricket Club ended 4-4 after full time and so went to penalities.

In a penalty shootout, the Hub held their nerve to win 5-4.

Sherburn Village WMC were 4-0 winners at Hetton Social RAR, while Durham Rangers won 5-2 at Lambton Lions.

Goals from Callum Savage and Kieran Storey gave Spennymoor Volitger a 2-1 home win over Bowburn. Sedgefield Corner House won 2-1 at Quarringto­n Hill WMC.

Pease’s West travelled to Witton Gilbert WMC and goals from Michael Winter (2), Andrew Blair (2), David Blair, Roman Ayemou and Steve Johnson put them into the next round, winning 7-0.

Newton Aycliffe Navy Club were 4-1 winners at Waldridge with goals coming from Anth Harrison (2), Reed Molloy and Connor Halford.

Premier League leaders Sherburn Village suffered their first defeat of the season, losing 5-4 at The Iron Horse in Newton Aycliffe.

Sherburn raced into a three-goal lead after some horror defending by the Iron Horse defence.

Aycliffe had plenty of the ball, but couldn’t break down a compact Sherburn defence.

Ben Wood got one back for The Horse just before half time.

The second half saw The Horse fly out of the traps and were soon level with goals from Shaun Ryder and Chase McMullen.

Ben Wood put Aycliffe in front with a spectacula­r overhead kick, with Wood completing his hat-trick to make it 5-3.

Sherburn then pulled a goal back as the game finished 5-4.

Also, in the Premier League, goals from Glenn Donaldson and Kevin Hodgson gave Sedgefield St Edmunds a 2-0 away win at Ferryhill Celtic.

In the First Division, goals from Dave Winter and Gav Richardson gave Sacriston WMC a 2-0 home win over New Brancepeth WMC.

Chester Garden Farm were 5-4 winners over Ouston Juniors.

Hetton Social were 3-1 winners at Framwellga­te Moor WMC in the Second Division.

In the Third Division, goals from Andy Illingwort­h, Connor Shaw and Steve Haswell (2) saw Pelton Crown Inn win 4-2 at Hetton New Inn.
