RYHOPE HAVE VASE PLAN IN PLACE TO COMBAT DUNSTON

NON-LEAGUE FOOTBALL

-

Ryhope CW assistant manager Stu Gooden has been hard at work as his side prepare for their first game in two weeks.

A former FA Vase winner will be their visitors as they face Dunston UTS in the Second Qualifying Round of the competition.

An impressive win at Chester-le-Street Town set up the tie but the win at Moor Park marked the start of a 13-day break for Gary Pearson’s side.

That time has been put to good use as Gooden put the Ryhope squad through their paces in training and took the time to watch their Vase opponents in their shock FA Cup win over Evo-Stik NPL Premier Division club North Ferriby United.

Despite the impressive win over higher-level opponents, Gooden admitted that he saw nothing new from Chris Swailes’ side.

“They were the same old Dunston,” explained the Ryhope number two.

“Yes, I was impressed but there was nothing that I didn’t already know about them.

“There are quick and hard-working up front and they have a solid midfield.

“The defence is organised and disciplined and their full-backs like to get forward.

“We know what to expect and we have been working hard to combat that in training.

“We have a plan in place and the break has done us some good.

“Players are back from injury and we are ready to kick-start the season.” Ryhope welcome back captain Ben Riding from suspension and Chris Trewick also returns after recovering from a hernia operation. A hamstring injury rules out Josh Home-Jackson and both Robbie Bird and Matty Weirs are unavailable.

Seaham Red Star travel to Greater Manchester to face North West Counties League club Daisy Hill.

Red Star manager Mark Collingwood could hand debuts to new signings Kyle Oliver and Paul Weldon.

Fellow new addition Dan Wilson will be looking to score in a third consecutive game since joining the club from Blyth AFC.

Washington will hope to put their poor league form behind them when they make their Vase bow for the season with a trip to Division Two basement club Brandon United.

Former Mechanics player Ben Joyeux could face a quick reunion with his former team-mates after joining Brandon last week.

Consett are without defender Ross Wilkinson and midfielder Dan Hawkins for their trip to Bridlington Town.

Goalkeeper Tom Dawson misses Northallerton Town’s visit to Vase debutants Steeton FC.

Four-time Vase winner Ian Chandler will begin his quest for a fifth when his Bishop Auckland side entertain Division Two club West Allotment Celtic.

Billingham Synthonia are in Vase action tonight when they travel to Northern League Division One title challengers Hebburn Town.

Jamie Pollock’s side go into the tie in good form and are unbeaten in their last five games in all competitions.

Former Middlesbrough star Pollock is boosted by the news that he has a full squad available for the game.

Hebburn are hoping for a good crowd at the Energy Check Ground this eveing, with manager Scott Oliver saying: “I really enjoyed our performance last week against Shildon and feel we are ready to kick on now and have a very good season.

“I am hoping for a good crowd as this team is very exciting going forward and we have been good to watch so far.”

Neighbours Billingham Town are also in Vase action on Saturday when they entertain Division Two rivals Birtley Town at Bedford Terrace.

Crook Town travel to Woodhorn Lane to face Ashington and two former winners meet at the Glebe at Whickham host Whitley Bay.
