Goals galore as the Billy Pemberton Memorial Cup gets underway

GOALS GALORE AS THE BILLY PEMBERTON MEMORIAL CUP GETS UNDERWAY

-

A Troy Baker brace - despite playing in goal - helped Park View to a 10-0 win over North Biddick in the first round of the Billy Pemberton Memorial Cup.

Though Jack Main stood out for Biddick, his poor Washington-based side were well beaten by further goals from Fletcher, Southern (3) and Baister (4).

Elsewhere, The Lakeside continued their recent good form whilst adding to Wear United’s woes with a fine 5-3 win.

Lewis Murton’s excellent display and two goals earned him ‘Star Man’, and Simpson added another for the hosts. United hit back through Hume, Wade and Croucher, but supersub Mark Barrass scored twice to hand victory to the Lakers.

Queen Vics required penalties to beat the Hylton Road Superstars, aka Oddies.

It ended 3-3 after 90 minutes with Cassidy, Morris and Muir finding the net for the Vics, and Webster (2) and McQuillan keeping Oddies in the game. Vics edged the spot kicks 4-3 after Richie Timm ballooned his strike high and wide.

A spectacular Adam Wasey strike was the highlight as Ryhope cruised to a 5-0 win over AFC Houghton. Middlebrook, McDonough, Cushingham and Nath Brown also scored.

Hall Farm Doxy Lad and Washington United played out an impressive 1-1 draw but it was the away side who took a 4-3 win via penalties. Glenwright had Hall Farm in front before United’s Ryan Peters levelled.

The Grange enjoyed a welcome win over Redhouse to get their season back on track. Mark Atchison, Dolan, Lane and Nath Dodd found the net, Kinnair with the Redhouse reply.

Ryhope produced another poor performance as they went down 6-1 to The Victory Club. Liam Jackson’s hattrick preceded Jake Mutch’s consolation, before Brown, Cook and Head sealed the win.

Sunderland North and Washington Cherry Tree drew 1-1, Dan Robson scoring for North before a Bryan Wood equaliser for the Cherries took the tie to penalties, the Cherries winning 4-3.

Velocity recorded backto-back wins, albeit also via spot kicks - triumphing 5-4 following a 2-2 draw against Grindon Broadway which saw them lead through a Mason Green brace cancelled out by Middlemiss and Harrison.

Craig Richardson was ‘Star Man’ and involved in most of Myers’ eight goals against Washington New Tavern. Andy Smith, Lillie, Evans and Michael Smith all hit braces before Robbie Dale and Craig Neal reduced the scoreline for the Tavern.

Washington Athletic easily beat Whitburn Panthers, 11-0, with Longstaff scoring five, Middlemas two, and Rutherford, Wilson, McKinley and Steve Trow also on target.

Penshaw dumped Witherwack out in style, winning 5-1. Jordan, Hilton, Williams and Alex Simpson (2) did the damage, Jaq Hopper with Witherwack’s.

And Ashbrooke Rosedene hammered Washington Duke 10-1, Hope-Hindmarsh with four, Ridley two and Etheridge, Leonard, Brown and Luke Helens also scoring, while Reece Smith claimed the Duke’s consolation.
