Go along with your friends and enjoy a get together and a natter. Some midweek activities will be cancelled this week as the church will be looking forward to the children from the village school going along to take part in the annual Bible comes Alive sessions. The church is also looking forward to its 125th anniversary this month. There will be a memorial service on Sunday, November 11, at 6pm. Everyone welcome. This term they have had a mermaid theme, and the Brownies have enjoyed turning themselves into a mermaid as well as colouring and creating peg doll pals. On Friday, October 19, at 7.30pm a harvest supper will be held at St Mary Magdalene’s Parish Centre, Wilson Street. Tickets on sale now, £3.50. This will be a fun night with hearty food and laughter. Peter Welsh will be guest speaker at Ewesley Road Ladies’ Fellowship meeting tomorrow at 7.30pm. The title of his talk is Now This Lousy War Is Over. Deptford and Millfield Community Centre is holding a knitted stall and tombola stall on Tuesday, October 25, at 10.30am to raise money for The Golden Cirlce, which meets there. Sunderland Cardiac Support Group monthly meeting will be held on Thursday at 6.45pm in The Education Centre, Sunderland Royal Hospital. John Anderson will provide musical entertainment. Sunderland Minster Vintage and Craft Fayre takes place on Saturday from 10am to 3pm. There are lost of stalls to browse including jewellery, scarves, bags, bric-a-brac, hand-crafted greetings cards, and much more. Enjoy a tasty treat in the pop up cafe along with a refreshing cuppa. Entry is 50p for adults, and children free. Words of Wit, Wisdom and Wonder is the subject of a talk to be given to fellow members of Sunderland Men’s Probus Club at their meeting in The Ashbrooke Sports Pavilion today at 10.30am by the club’s registra, Colin Orr. All are welcome. A Men’s Group meets in St Luke’s Church large hall every Monday from 1.30pm to 3.30pm. You can play darts, dominoes, cards and even do jigsaw puzzles. Donations of tombola prizes, and emulsion paint, any colour are needed by Deptford and Millfield Community Centre. Sunderland Minster Playgroup meets every Tuesday from 9.30am to 11.30am. Sessions cost £2 and refreshments are available. A table-top sale is held every Thursday at Deptford and Millfield Community Centre from 11am to 12.30pm. Donations of items to sell would be greatly appreciated. To commemorate the centenary in November of the ending of the First World War, St Gabriel’s Church is planning a display featuring information about those from the congregation, who served, and in many cases lost their lives. It is hoped that families with a long connection to the parish might have photographs, family stories and other information that could help. St Gabriel’s Church will hold a coffee morning on Saturday from 10.30am to noon in aid of church funds.
