Hepplewhite seals win with late penalty

-

Michael Hepplewhite was Chester-le-Street Town’s match-winner in their Brooks Mileson Memorial League Cup tie against Durham City last night.

The Northern League Division Two sides looked as if their Second Round tie was heading into a penalty shoot-out with the deadlock remaining unbroken with full-time approaching.

But the Cestrians were awarded a penalty in the third minute of injurytime and Hepplewhite made no mistake by blasting the spot-kick into the top right-hand corner of the net.

Much-fancied Hebburn Town were sent tumbling out of the competition by Division Two club West Allotment Celtic.

The North Tyneside outfit will take their place in the Third Round draw thanks to a 4-1 win on penalties after the two sides had failed to break the deadlock in normal time.

West Auckland Town become only the second side to beat Dunston UTS this season as they beat the cup holders at the Wanted Stadium.

Adam Burnicle grabbed his first goal for West since returning to the club to give them a first-half lead and midfielder Alex Francis sealed the win ten minutes from time.

A brave display from Northallerton Town wasn’t enough to stop Consett progressing as goals from Michael Sweet and Michael Mackay gave the Steelmen a 2-1 win at Belle View.

Newton Aycliffe came from behind to win 2-1 at home to Bedlington.
